6th Grade Science
6th grade Science is Prentice Hall: Physical Science Interactive Notebook. This curriculum activates student learning with write-in student notebook, hands on labs and activities, and student online interaction with virtual labs, current science discoveries, articles and videos. Science-based field trips in 6th grade include an engineering experience at The Works and an environmental learning experience at Camp St. Criox. I continue to develop additional educational experiences for inventing and engineering. 7th Grade Science 7th grade science is Biology:The Study of Living Things. We start the year learning how to use microscopes. We study cell, cell structure and microscopic organisms. As the leaves start changing we move into the study of plants. After Thanksgiving we investigate the history of life on Earth. January is all about The Nativity Science Fair. The Science Fair is held in January, please check the school calendar. Each 7th grader will conduct an experiment and will present their findings to be independently judged by community scientists. Finalists will have the opportunity to move on to the regional science fair in February. February and March are spent examining different animal groups. Animal dissections slated for this year are starfish, earthworms, grasshoppers, perch, frogs, deer hearts. A pathologist from the VA will come in and lead an awesome dissection of a cow heart! We start April with an Earth Day Project and finish off the year with the study of the human body and its many systems. 8th Grade Science To cover the Minnesota State Standard for Science we will be studying the following areas: Earth Science, Astronomy, Chemistry and Engineering. This year in 8th grade science we will be approaching the curriculum with more technology than ever. Highlighted labs/investigations for 8th grade: Rube Goldberg, Forensics Investigation Kit, The Chemistry of Invisible Ink STEM kit, Using STEM to investigate Issues in managing waste, Ice Cream Glaciers, Engineering history of Minnesota. The Nativity Science Education is capped off at the 8th grade Chicago field trip with a visit Shedd Aquarium and The Museum of Science and Technology. |
